So here you can see part of my painting process. This is what I call my underpainting. It is actually my second layer of pretty thin paint. All I am trying to do here is to paint basic colors and values. If I can get as close as I can It makes the rest of the painting process much easier. In this stage I use as big of brushes as I can get away with, and I strive to work quickly, not fussing too much about making anything perfect.
This painting is of my wife and daughter (they are actually in their Halloween costumes). To me it is meaningful because it represents Women and their ability to do great things, but how motherhood if viewed from the wrong perspective can be viewed as a burden. In all actuality being a mother is the highest calling and responsibility on this earth, and together mother and daughter can achieve greatness. My wife Tally will attest to the fact that being a mother isn't easy. It is a responsibility that never goes away. So Isa (my daughter) is depicted right there at her legs, peering around the corner.
